In the luggage barn of the Alūksne Bānītis train station, it is possible to learn about the history of the railway, the scenes of the eras, and the narrow-gauge train as a helper, a workplace, and a source of inspiration for more than a century.

It is like a virtual journey that promotes railway culture in time and space as part of a traditional yet modern and sustainable way of life. If you apply prior to the exposition, you can also play the role of "Railway Detective". This exposition has been open for only a couple of years and has already received high awards both in Latvia and abroad.

The "Environmental Labyrinth" is a family-run interactive nature museum that offers a glimpse into one of Europe's largest collections of luminescent minerals. The splendor of the stones is shown under special lighting. While walking through the labyrinths, you can also get to know the songs of birds, the depths of the earth, and the touch of the world's waters.

In the very heart of Alūksne, next to Lake Alūksne, stands Alūksne New Castle, which has been the home to the Museum of Alūksne since April 1st, 1959. The museum's collection consists of more than 54 thousand objects that form the history of Alūksne. The museum also hosts art exhibitions, which are changed periodically. Over time, the museum's premises are gradually being restored, regaining the historic grace of the castle. The museum can be visited with a guide. If arranged prior, it is possible to feel like a baron by riding in a rickshaw.

The Ernst Glück Bible Museum is the only place where you get the opportunity to see the biblical path from the first Bible translated by Ernst Glück to the modern digital Bible. The exhibition offers to take a look at Bibles in 40 languages. In the museum, you can read the text in the gothic imprint and feel the development of the language.

Alūksne New Castle was built in the second half of the 19th century in the late Tudor neo-Gothic style ordered by Baron Alexander von Fittinghof. It is one of the most remarkable architectural monuments in Latvia. The castle's interior has various ceiling and wall paintings from different architectures, and some of them are exposed. During summer, the Round Tower of the Museum of Alūksne exhibits works by Alūksne handicraftsmen, which can also be purchased. Inside the castle, there are some restoration works being carried out. Two museums—the Museum of Alūksne and the Museum of Natural History “Environmental Labyrinth”—have filled up the cozy castle premises, and they welcome its visitors.

Lakeshore or Old Castle is one of the parts of the Alūksne manor building complex, located on the shore of Lake Alūksne. The stone living house was built between 1793 and 1794 in the classicism style and has undergone the least reconstructions. In the first period of independence of Latvia—in 1932—a hospital was set up in the building. From 1938 to 1944, doctor Jānis Keggi was the director of the hospital. Today, the castle houses the Art School of Alūksne, so if you want to see it from the inside, you must book a visit in advance.

The church was built of local boulders between 1781 and 1788. The initiator of the construction was Otto Herman von Vietinghoff—the owner of Alūksne manor—and its architect was Christoph Haberland. The church was located in a swampy place, so they had to create a hill, and they used two thousand oak piles for construction. Visitors can not only hear great stories about the church but also climb the 55.5 m high church tower, which offers a great view of the city.

The Gulbene-Alūksne narrow-gauge railway is the only train in Europe that runs regularly. The trip is 33 kilometers long, and the ride takes less than an hour and a half in total. "Bānītis" is a popular tourist attraction, which interests visitors not only as a testimony of ancient railway equipment but also as attractive transportation for a trip around the picturesque surroundings of Vidzeme. The landlords of "Bānītis" in cooperation with municipalities and railway enthusiasts, regularly organize various events. The main event is the annual "Bānītis" Festival. The performance of robbers, which lets people feel like a real robbery, is becoming more and more popular with visitor groups of friends and colleagues.

The fountains made by Alvits Grīvnieks, a local from Alūksne, have become well known in Alūksne. The city has seven fountains, each more gorgeous than the other. They can be seen in the inner lake of Lake Alūksne and its shore, on both sides of Alūksne New Castle and the manor park. The beauty of water games is acquired during the twilight hours when they are being lit.

The Alūksne manor park adjacent to the Alūksne New Castle is a great place to enjoy leisurely walks or a bike ride. The current area of ​​the park is 32 hectares. In the manor park, you will find not only great lookout places, but you will also be able to see the grace of ten small architectural forms. Many of them, such as small architectural forms such as the Alexander’s Pavilion, the Vietinghoff Mausoleum, the Granite Obelisk, and more, have been restored. During the dark hours of the day, the manor park is illuminated.

The German pastor Ernst Glück, while living in Alūksne, did one of the most remarkable works of his life—he translated the Bible to Latvian. In honor of this grand event, he planted oaks that are still thriving to this day.

Temple Hill is the oldest inhabited territory in the Alūksne region. At the top of it is the Temple of Fame (Slavas templis)—a granite rotunda, whose height reaches 216.7 m above sea level. An old legend says that the soldiers created the hill by carrying needed components with hats to make it easier to fire at the Castle of Alūksne, located on the island. In 1937, people began the construction of tourist facilities by building. Sun Bridge was the first thing they built. Currently, the area around Temple Hill is suitable for tourists and vacationers. You can get a great view of Lake Alūksne, the manor park, and Castle Island (Pilssala) from the top of Temple Hill. At the foot of Temple Hill, you can find recreation zone and special fishing spots. It is also possible to climb on an observation tower located on the top of the hill that rises above sea level. A pedestrian bridge on Temple Hill street connects Castle Island (Pilssala) and Temple Hill. It delights with special music every hour from 10:00 to 24:00.

Castle Island (Pilssala) is the largest island in Lake Alūksne. It has become a popular holiday destination for both locals and tourists. In summer, Pilssala is a complex recreation place for cultural explorers, families with children, and those who love active recreation. There is a children’s playground, volleyball courts, a basketball court, a stadium, and an outdoor gym with all amenities. On hot summer days, you can cool off on the beach. But the delicious Alūksne cocktail can be enjoyed at the café in a particularly elegant building that resembles a shell. Here it is also possible to climb on the roof.

The zip line ZZZiPPP Alūksne is Latvia's fastest and longest ride above the waters. It is a 350-meter-long zip line from Temple Hill to Castle Island (Pilssala). It is possible to achieve a speed up to 50 km per hour. Speed, adrenaline, and unprecedented feelings are guaranteed. Anyone in the weight category from 30 to 100 kilograms can go on this zip line.

The 37.8-meter-high Alūksne observation tower is located in Temple Hill Park, and it is one of the tallest wooden observation towers in Latvia, with 153 steps leading to the observation platform. From the top of it, you can see Castle Island (Pilssala), the manor park, and the beauty of Alūksne city's landscape. It is a place for taking great photos. At the foot of the tower is a visitor center where you can buy local souvenirs. During winter, the observation tower is closed. If you have climbed this observation tower, put your strength to the test and go on an observation tower tour through the whole Alūksne region.

A trip on a boat Marienburg will be a great way to get to know Alūksne from the lakeside. It takes on boat rides when it is sunny, raining, and even in the moonlight. During the trip, you will be able to see the most beautiful places located on the shore of Lake Alūksne, as well as Cepurītes sala. It can be used to go on a public voyage and also booked for individual trips. These boat trips are accompanied by an audio guide. If you want to go on a small party trip, bring along food, and the staff will take care of the music.

On the raft Seagull, you will be accompanied by a guide and an accordionist. They will make you feel like a true resident of Alūksne and let you entirely explore the city. Book a trip on a raft prior, and it will take you on an individual or collective (up to 25 people) ride at the time you prefer. It is also available at midnight, allowing you to enjoy the starry sky and music on the lake.

Lake Alūksne is the eleventh largest lake in Latvia. The lake captivates with its beauty and opportunities for active recreation. Everyone starting from individual travelers to a group of family and friends will find a suitable activity. The various leisure opportunities will provide varied and unforgettable emotions. Romanticists can enjoy a leisurely trip around the lake on SUP boards, rowing boats, pedal boats, or motorized pedal boats for the lazy ones. Those who like action can book a trip on a speedboat and ride on an inflatable swimming ring behind it. By going on a ride on the raft Seagull and the boat Marienburg, you will learn about the history of Alūksne. Lake Alūksne is popular among anglers both in winter and summer. Just remember that you need a special license to fish in Lake Alūksne!

 Alūksne disc golf course is located in the territory of the sports center Mežinieki, and there are nine catch baskets on the course. The placement of the baskets ensures a rational and comfortable game for both experts and beginners, as well as preserves the values of nature. There is a convenient and spacious parking lot for players, and it is possible to leave your clothes in the wardrobe lockers. There is also a guest house with hotel services and a restroom. The discs for playing disc golf are available for free at the Alūksne Tourist Information Center during business hours.
